I am looking for schools offering special education for challenged kids. I am interested in working for these institutions. I am looking for such schools in the outer ring road-sarjapur area. Any info would be helpful.
    Thanks!

    dear p_jay,

thats a noble cause you have chosen. you may please contact KPAMRC karnataka parents’ association of mentally retarded citizens – office located to the left side of kidwai hospital on hosur road, inside AMH (Association for the Mentally Handicapped) compound. the tel no is: 080-2656 4608. they will have a list of special schools in bangalore and you may choose one according to your convenience. they also run many teachers training programmes to work in the field of disabilities, approved by RCI.

    best to you.

why is it a taboo for parents to put their children i n NIOS EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW that their children are LD?

    • on January 20, 2009 at 8:41 am latha vidyaranya

dear mridula, it is not as easy as we write here for the parents to accept that that their child is dyslexic. certain realities are very harsh to accept and parents keep trying admitting their dyslexic child to different schools with the hope of seeing some improvement in a different setting, all the while thinking that a new school and a new teacher may help their child. this results in waste of lot of precious time for the child when he/she could have been given remedial education had the problem been diagnosed earlier and suitable intervention done. the issue becomes more complex and harder to accept when the parents themselves are educationally highly qualified. here parents require more education and counselling than the kid per se.

    Dear Latha
Good to see your blog. Haven’t spoken to you in ages. Our school (Deepika) is now housed in a building at Shankar Mutt complex, Basavangudi. We have both NIOS and State Board, therapies for Autistic and Asperger children. The Vijayanagar branch has been merged with the main school. Please do come to our school sometime. We have an exhibition planned for March 12th and 13th (from 3pm to 6:30pm). The exhibition is based exclusively on subjects that the children study. The NIOS social studies project promises to be a treat.
Everyone is welcome. Parents thinking of NIOS for their children will get an idea of what the children need to study.
Our school number is 26619844. We work from 9 am to 3 pm.
    Regards
    Sita Krishnamurthy

    Hi Latha,

I will like to get some information about the NIOS schools.
My son is studying in class 7 in a CBSE school here at Kochi . They are having Hindi and Malayalam as 2nd and 3rd languages. My husband is transferred to Bangalore and we are planning to move there. In Bangalore ,CBSE schools offer either Kannada or Sanskrit as the 3rd language. But in Nios syllabus you only need to learn 1 language (English) . My son is not very good in his studies(only C and D grades). But as it is he is not having any learning disability. Will it be okay if I send him to a NIOS school. Do they only admit children with some special needs. Will my child have any problem adjusting in such a class. Please advise.

I am father of a 14 year old boy who is a case of mild cerebral palsy. This has affected his fine motor activities like buttoning of shirt , holding pen .It has also affected his speech slightly. He is socially normal. Due to his problem with writing and speech clarity, I could not send him to regular school. He is presently undergoing physiotherapy, OT . I want to some how prepare him for open school examination (8th std). Can you please advice me as to where I can get the open school syllabus for 8th std?

    Hello mam,
i have applied for 12th in nios for oct 2009exm .jus now i have recieved my books.iam in coimbatore i dont find any coaching centres for nios syllabus.so iam so scared and i have big question mark tat whether i will be able to prepare for the exam or not.please can u give me some tips or ideas to prepare for exam mam? waiting for ur reply mam.

    • on May 23, 2009 at 3:57 am latha vidyaranya

dear ram, i am very happy to learn that you determined to pursue your studies after 10th std and are now preparing for your 12th! first of all, please relax. exams are not such ruthless monsters. nios is very kind. you do not have to go in search of special coaching for the syllabus. try to find out a kind teacher who is adept at 12th syllabus – the teacher can be anybody in your neighbourhood who is willing to help you with this task. there is still lot of time to appear for october exam. choose the subjects that you are comfortable with now and leave the rest to the next time. start preparing for those two or three subjects and get some extra help. draw a time table to schedule your study of these subjects and follow the timetable sincerely. little lapses here and there do not matter. i have lot of confidence that you will prepare and do well in the exam. i shall keep you in my prayers and god always helps a sincere student. come on, get going now!

      best wishes to you,
      latha aunty

    Dear Ma’am,

My son has been diagonised with ADHD after thorough evaluation.

His has just passed his 3rd standard.

The recommendation post evaluation was that we change his school from ICSE to state syllabus and to put him in a school that has a class size of preferrably not more that 20 students.

We reside in Frazer Town and would like to know of suitable schools that confirm to the above requirement and will cater to his need.

    Please Advise!!!

    Regards,
    David Istacky

you will get marks sheets as and when you pass those subjects. after clearing all the subjects, i am sure they can issue a consolidated marks sheet wherein all the subjects passed and their marks are given in one report card. you need to apply for a consolidated marks sheet separately.
