    Hi,

Do you know any schools provide special education (level 1 onwards) in Bangalore?.. we are living in US, so, you know that we have a large number of schools for special ed. in US everywhere. We are planning to relocate to Bangalore ‘if’ our son can get a good school with special edu.

    Apreciate your inputs.

    Kamal

thanks, kamal, for visiting the blog and airing your question.

there are number of special schools in bangalore catering to the special needs of children – challenged in a number of ways. there are schools to cater to the needs of intellectually challenged, physically challenged, for kids with cerebral palsy, for kids with autism etc. there are also integrated schools with opportunity sections. there are special schools with vocational centres too.

there are also organizations that educate teachers who are willing to help the challenged.

i am sure you will be able to admit your child into one of these special schools when you relocate to bangalore.

my best wishes to your family.

    Latha madam,
My only child is dyslexic. he is attending a school listed under NIOS schools in this blog. I find that the teachers are not trained in special education, not even having minimun exposure. A section of them lack empathy as well. Now I am advised to engage a special educator after school hours. I do not know if this is going to help. Do you any special educator around Yeshwanthpur?
Secondly, more and more schools should have a wing for special students.
    Regards

    Dear Madam,

My son, aged 13 years, is studying in IX Std (ICSE) in Bangalore and puts in efforts to study. I can not say that he is hardworking. He doesnt want us to interfere in his studies. He seems to be intelligent but he speaks less. Earlier my wife used to teach him and occasionally, I also used to teach him, especially Maths. In the exams he gets very poor marks. Could you please help us and let us know whether it is a learning disability and whether this can be overcome. Whether any treatment/counselling is required. If he doesnt score marks in the December and March exams, he would detained in the same class which he doesnt want.

    Thank you in advance.

    Warm Regards

    Krishnamohan

  13. on January 16, 2009 at 8:35 am Shravana

Hello! My name is Shravana Rao and I am an Accelerated Learning Skills Coach.
I came across this website and thought I could share a little bit about the kind of work my organisation does. If you like, it may be an option you could explore.
I’m part of a Learning and Training organization called Neoway Academy and we conduct programs in the area of learning, coaching and training. Our organization’s core competency lies in the field of NLP (Neuro-Lingistic Programming), using which one can achieve breakthrough results for themselves and also people they work with.
One of the programs that we conduct integrates the fields of NLP, Accelerated learning skills and Coaching. This program trains one to become a Coach, enabling them to work with another in accelerating their learning process. We use and combine the amazing science of NLP with advanced learning skills technologies that help in whole brain learning for an individual, thus also helping in removing learning blocks that one may have.
We have a team of coaches and we work mostly with children, helping them move from where they are to where they want to be.
Our Head Coach has had amazing results with children who have been termed dyslexic and autistic as well.
If what I’ve shared interests you, or you would like more information, you could also email me at shravana@neowayin.com, and I could back to you on the same. You could also have a look at our website http://www.neowayin.com.
Hope this was of some use. Have a great day!

What is the future for challenged students after completion of Sr. Secondary from NIOS?

    • on January 30, 2009 at 4:45 am latha vidyaranya

      hello vani,
thanks for the visit and airing a question.

future of a student with learning disability depends upon the degree of learning difficulties that he/she has. if the degree is severe, it will be difficult for the student to pursue higher studies. during senior secondary class itself, usually such students opt for vocational training in a particular field of their interest and after completing the NIOS, they can take up apprenticeship in industries and get further trained and later get employed. if the learning capacity is not so much affected, he/she can pursue the subjects that they have already studied in NIOS syllabus in any mainstream college. NIOS certificates are valid for admission in any mainstream college. usually by the age of 16 – 17, these students are smart enough to have developed their own strategies of learning their favourite subjects that they can manage to study and get a degree. but in this competitive job scenario it is more important for these students to get vocationally trained parallel to their subjects and also get trained in life skills to deal with the adult world.

    Hi Madam,

My younger brother is totally weak in study. My Brother is 13 years old and found to be slow learner. He is not all able to move on to studies. His mental growth is too slow. Kindly tell me what to do…

    • on May 23, 2009 at 4:05 am latha vidyaranya

instead of focussing only on what he can not do, please start looking at things that he is good at and encourage him on those lines – academics or non-academics. get him extra remedial help to teach him those difficult subjects – somebody who is kind, patient and understands his special needs. we need to reduce our expectations and slowdown in our hurriedness to achieve things fast. he is a slow learner and we need to pace with him and encourage him and support him. his performance will surely improve when he understands that YOU ARE WITH HIM in all his FAILURES and SUCCESSES.

  24. on July 30, 2009 at 3:58 pm Jyoti Srinivas

    Dear Mrs. Latha,

Apologies for the typo errors of my previous message.

My son is 21 and currently completed 3 subjects at grade 10 level of the NIOS. He will be completing set of 3 other subjects in October 2009.

We are currently thinking of shifting to Bangalore from Delhi.

If we do, can he continue these subjects in October at a NIOS academy in Bangalore this year itself?

Would you also let us know of a suitable NIOS academy for him to complete his class 12 next year?

He has had one year work experience at the Trident hotel in Gurgaon but unfortunately without the grade 12 certification, it is proving difficult for us to find him a post.

He is an excellent communicator and extremely hard working. I am sure completing his class XII will open doors for him.

    Kindly advise us

    Jyoti

    Madam

My daughter is having this issue. She has not done well in the grades ,but however she excels in drawing and cycling. We want to know how deep is this issue . We want to get this sorted by working on her weakness and scoring on her strengths .

We need to communicate with a person who can identify the problems and then suggest us to work . We want to take care of this ourselves and if necessary get trained to take care of my child and in future help others also.

Please suggest us a roadmap to take this ahead
