I read an interesting (read nonsensical) piece of Research result, in New Indian express, bangalore Edition, dated 7th Feb 08, found out by the Italian scientists. I call it ‘junk research’ as the results of such researches do more harm than good to woman-kind!
They have found out that wearing high heeled shoes can boost a woman’s sexual desire, as walking with high heeled shoes improves the strength of pelvic floor muscles thus upping her sex life!!!
Can anything be more stupid than advising wearing high heel shoes to improve strength of pelvic muscles? Are there no better exercises to improve ones muscles than to resort to heeled shoes?? Have we all not heard of people breaking their back bones by falling down, unable to balance themselves with a pair of high heels? How many ladies suffer twists in ankle bones, tear in the ligaments, postural faults, all because they could not manage their steps while climbing stairs or by walking on uneven surfaces with these shoes on?
Podiatrists (foot specialists) say that the anatomical position of a heeled shoe wearer is abnormal. This causes lot of stress to the feet as well as to the back bone. This leads to many stress fractures to the foot bones. This also leads to foot ailments, swelling of toes, shooting pain caused by injuries to foot nerves, swelling of the balls of feet etc.
When such is the long list of ‘rewards’ for the high heeled shoe wearer, was there any need to pump in funds to this kind of research to declare another ‘attractive’ result of increased libido for the wearer?! I wonder which woman would want to break her bones, have plastered limbs, be bed-ridden with a ‘high- libido’ !
Any takers???

You’re right, Ma’am. In my opinion, this kind of research and the people who indulge in it deserve a boot, in a manner of speaking.
A small change is required in the definition of podiatrists from ‘food specialists’ to ‘foot specialists’. I must narrate to you our experience with one such ’specialist’ at a well known hospital here.
thanks, ravi, for pointing out that error. the typographical error has been set right.
Muscles get their strength from exercise. High heeled shoes do not provide exercise! Infact they might end up taking one to a state in which they can never exercise again!!
Lots of dumb researches take place all over the world. If someone really wants to learn something from this blog, here is a tip, Kiegel exercises strengthen pelvic floor muscles and have proven to increase libido…..by the way its definitely not Kiegels in high heels!!!
ha ha.. funny one
..i have never beleived in any research of this type.. most of this is based on some type of survey or something like that..

but believe me there are fools in india who would do that… may be some males too try with their buy high heeled shoes
by the way ,is there any chance that the research company might be in collaboration with a footwear company that manufactures footwear’s with extra high heels
# prabha,
you are right. kegel’s exercises improve the tone of pelvic floor muscles and they can inturn prevent issues like uterine prolapse and urinary incontinence in women. it is beneficial for men too in preventing many of the prostate issues.
# arvind,
you may be very right in suggesting that some footwear company, manufacturing high heeled shoes, must have funded the research(ers) to come out with this result to improve their sales! what marketing startegies!
on a hilarious note!
there should be some truth here, if i pay for nice high heeled fashionable shoes for my wife ( regularly), she lets me come close to her more often than usual!
well high heeled shoes, hubby’s credit card : i think have a deep libido connection!!!
Interesting piece. I guess with people getting more health and body conscious, manufacturers feel their sales are endangered so they have to find reasons for people to buy their shoes. And improved libido is certainly a good reason for many people to buy something. As Aravind say, maybe even males will get inspired.
Whatever the health brigade says, the ‘well-dressed’ woman is still wearing high heels and looking good in them, even if her legs may be tortured. I just heard an American woman on TV say, “ I was born with high heels.”
Latha, I’ve just enrolled in an aerobics class and am enjoying it immensely thanks to you saying it’s never too late for old dogs. But, right now, I’ve got a little sprain in my foot and it’s due to some moves done wearing flat canvas shoes. But I’m going back.
HEELARIOUS RESEARCH!

hubbies are always darlings when they can finance wife’s shopping sprees!

you play with words very well!
kalyani, i am happy you visited my blog and have sent a comment. thanks.
kalyani, i wonder how the mother of that lady “born with high heeled shoe” bore the child’s kickings inside her womb for 9 months!
i am so happy, kalyani, that you are attending aerobic classes! i am sure you will soon be recovering from that sprain (afterall it was not due to high heels!) and be springing on your feet once again!
do not say old dogs. only body ages. spirit can remain eternally young! and with your aerobics, even the body can become ‘prim and propah’!
gud luk.
most of the women in indian film industry wear high heels irrespective of the difficulties they face in walking and standing. may be they hurt their toes and finally throw the pair in the bin as they reach home. till now i was under impression they want to look taller than their peers who in turn were trying to do the the same. this business of outdoing each other superficially will have a deeper impact, i never knew.
sibtain, thanks for dropping in and sending your comments. yes, most of the girls buy and wear high heeled shoes with the intension of looking taller only. it is just incidental that it may have this kind of an effect on the muscles inside the body. it would be unwise to wear the shoe with this intent.
